This volume contains Dr Harry Leonard’s edition of the three surviving diaries of Robert Lee of Binfield, together with his correspondence for the period 1736-1744. Lee was an active justice in south-east Berkshire and his three surviving diaries contain notes of his judicial business as well a record of his social life in Berkshire, London and Somerset, where he managed the estates of his uncle, the fifth Earl of Sterline, in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Somerset. The edition is supplemented by the text of over 130 letters written by Lee during this period, and supported by an extensive appendix containing biographical details of many of the individuals prominent in the pages of the diaries.
