Among the records of the parish overseers in the Berkshire Record Office are around ten thousand case papers which provide, often with vivid personal detail, information about the life history, family circumstances and mobility of individuals applying for poor relief, about paternity in bastardy cases, and about the apprenticeship of children. This volume contains abstracts of documents from thirteen south Berkshire parishes.
